Terminal 4 (Barajas Airport)
Madrid Barajas Airport opened in 1933, and has since been expanded several times. The last and most significant was in 1997, when the company Aena held a competition to expand its airport.
The proposal by British architect Richard Rogers in collaboration with the Madrid Estudio Lamela was the winner. It is located in the northeast of Madrid, 12 kilometers from the city center. The way they have been placed the different spaces of the terminal also allows its expansion in a very simple with little interference in the operation areas.
Each module is separated from the next by a gap called barrel. Represents the interface between different phases of the processing of the passenger, to facilitate the orientation, which is emphasized by introducing natural light into the interior of the building and significantly reduces the dependency of artificial lighting, considerably improving the quality and space perception. The striking undulating roof is plywood with metal structure.
