You definitely should visit the museums located in Madrid´s heart. With its famous "Art Triangle", Madrid is presented as one of the richest artistic heritage routes in Europe!
2 DAYS TOUR
This Museum was initially projected as General Hospital, a project designed by Hermosilla in the eighteenth century and later continued by Sabatini, which remained unfinished. The original purpose is curiously appropriate to their actual use, as the central figure in contemporary art is the healer. The use of a hospital as a center of modern and contemporary art is just a happy coincidence or not, depending on your point of view.
On the other hand, the failure of the initial draft of the hospital appears to resonate, even two centuries later, in the way that the original building was renovated and expanded several times, with a plan that seems to evolve and change without specifying a valid model, parallel to the development of its museum also variable or art center strategy.
In
one of the previous urban interstices is the extension designed by
Jean Nouvel, who
precisely aims to produce this kind of public space, with a small
square under a large floating roof trying to relate to the city.
You could say that the expansion project is a "concentrated Nouvel"
showing many of their most recent. Jean Nouvel has created three
buildings - a hall for temporary exhibitions, a library, an
auditorium and a restaurant.
The
Reina Sofia Museum is part of the Golden Triangle of Madrid and
offers some of the most important modernist works of world - the
famous Picasso
painting "Guernica"
is permanently exhibited here.
