2 DAYS TOUR
Prado Museum
The new space of the Prado Museum has to be seen as a new chapter in the Velazquez entrance on the side of the Paseo del Prado, in order to encourage and allow the passage of the cloister door.
As such, the passage leading from the door to Velázquez Jeronimos cloister has rebuilt a number of architectural arrangements designed to overcome the specific problems posed by the program. In this new episode of his life, the Prado Museum receives a transverse axis that allows the passage and communication between the inlet along the Paseo del Prado and the Cloister of St. Jerome. The addition of the new wing, the Gallerie dell'Accademia originally designed by Villanueva permanently exhibited collections of the Prado.
All these ancillary activities, which are so essential to the day to day organization of the museum are to be arranged around the axis that runs from the "door" in the Senate. These areas include a lobby and all the necessary services for temporary exhibitions, workshops and storage rooms, etc.. In the apsidal room downstairs serves as an intersection between the axles and convert the area into a superposition and combination of activities between the Prado Museum today and the newly built wing.
